YES, our property taxes are in the top 4% in the country. You can do the math yourself.
Step 1: Go to the Tax Foundation web page with property taxes by county here
Step 2: Download the list and see how many counties are in the country (call this TOTAL)
Step 3: Sort by Property Tax Amount
Step 4: Find our county on the list and note our rank on the list (call this US)
Step 5: The math: US divided by TOTAL multiplied by 100 gives you our percentage

The Forgotten Taxpayers have one more summer mission for you! And it happens on Tuesday, July 8th.
The Richmond Town budget is up, once again, for a vote. The town council did not respect your initial NO vote, and we need to do it one more time. Two recent Richmond elections have been decided by UNDER 30 votes. We need you on this one!
As noted in the recent Tax Foundations report, our property tax burden is in the top 4% in the country. And in the March 2025 RIPEC Report, Richmond was listed as the 7th highest property tax-burdened town in RI! Why? Because Richmond has an addiction to spending!
Even Town Council President Samantha Wilcox thinks our taxes are too darn high and she said so herself on a podcast. These are her words below from that podcast.
So now you can AGREE with Ms. Wilcox and REJECT this budget.
When Richmond gets a windfall of money from a growing residential or commercial tax base and state and federal grants, they should be REDUCING our tax burden. Instead, they take it upon themselves to SPEND this "extra" money. They do this every year! This current Town Council is no different.
This is town government. Its role is to provide the basic services. It is NOT the job of town government to fund "want-to-haves" and pet projects. It is NOT the job of town government to duplicate services provided by the private sector and local non-profits. It is NOT the job of town government to pick winners and losers.
You stood with me and countless others to vote NO on the Richmond town budget referendum last month. On July 8th, we must say NO again to reject the FY26 town budget. And THIS TIME IT WILL STICK.

Let's FREEZE spending at last year’s levels. Our Town Council members need to hear our message loudly and clearly – We The People said “NO” on June 3rd and “No” means “No”.
Why vote NO again? It’s about accountability. It’s about rejecting out-of-control spending. It’s about respecting the will of WE THE PEOPLE. “NO” should mean “NO”. Period. End of story. But “NO” in Richmond means “to heck with how the taxpayers voted because we – the Town Council - know best.” The Council thinks they can ignore our June victory. A second NO vote will prove they can’t ignore us again.
RESPECT THE WILL OF THE VOTERS! REJECT THE FY26 TOWN BUDGET
Vote “NO” on JULY 8th at Richmond Town Hall
Polls are open 8am to 8pm
